Guidance and counseling bootcamp for migrant returnees

In March 2022, The NYP with support from UNFPA held a 5-day Guidance and Counselling Boot camp for Migrant returnees. This activity aims to give Migrant returnees who were engaged in the Community Dialogue the required psychosocial support for their efficient reintegration. It is obvious that for the migrant returnees to be properly put back in the spaces they deserve to be in society, it cannot be done in isolation with their steady mental health. This is due to the number of challenges they faced during their journey and the mental distortion they experienced especially with the type of societies we have, where most migrant returnees are subjected to discrimination.
The five-day boot camp entailed sessions conducted by experts from the Educational Department, Youth Empowerment Project (YEP), and the International Organization for Migration (IOM), etc. These were conducted in the form of PowerPoint presentations, group works and exercises, question and answer sessions, etc. At the end of this project activity implementation, 50 migrant returnees were given psychosocial support through guidance and counseling sessions and were informed of the opportunities they could explore to assist in their socioeconomic growth and reintegration.
