The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) held a daylong election training on Wednesday, 28 May 2025, at the NYP building for officials of the National Youth Parliament (NYP) in The Gambia as the elections approach.
This training is part of a partnership with NYP, ensuring that the upcoming elections are conducted in a free, fair, inclusive, and transparent manner.
Abdoulie O. Bah, the Clerk and Head of Administration of the National Youth Parliament emphasized the importance of this training. He expressed gratitude to the IEC for their support and expertise in ensuring that the elections meet high standards.
Baboucarr Nyang, Chairperson of the NYP Election Committee, acknowledged the significant role of the IEC since the initiation of the National Youth Parliament’s election processes. He stressed the necessity of IEC’s guidance in holding peaceful and transparent elections.
Pa Makan Khan, Director of Communications at the Independent Electoral Commission, who is also the lead trainer for the election process, commended the NYP for their proactive approach in organizing an election targeting youth nationwide.
This Training of Trainers (TOT) will equip trained officials to train election volunteers who will serve as observers and polling agents on Election Day.
The National Youth Parliament is committed to upholding free, fair, and transparent youth elections.
